My passion for cooking is innate. Growing up in northwest Thailand I learned most of my cooking skills from an early age in my Mother’s kitchen. A supreme ‘homemaker’ my Mum taught me to hold great value in food and to make as many ingredients as possible from scratch.
Half of school holidays were spent on visits to my Grandmother’s traditional kitchen; she lived in the nearby ancient capital of Thailand: Ayudhaya. Grandma created the most wonderful flavoured traditional dishes, which were based on the ancient royal cuisines of Ayudhaya. Here I learnt about the plants and spices responsible for such wonderful aromas.
After schooling in my hometown of Tak I graduated from Chiang Mai University to peruse a career in publishing. It was then that I was first introduced to Phuket, where I worked on the ‘Phuket Magazine’, the island’s main tourist / lifestyle guide.
The ensuing years saw me branch into the property business, where I worked all over the country for developers and real estate agents. The great thing about this nomadic existence was that it exposed me to the amazing varied regional cuisines of Thailand.
This exposure to the wonders of Thai cuisine convinced me to quit working in property and to follow my true passion for cooking.
…So, I enrolled on the ‘Professional Thai Cuisine’ course at the renowned Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Academy in Bangkok. Top of my class I achieved my professional diploma with flying colours and, in the process, worked with some of the countries top chefs.
I’m now back in Phuket, enjoying the island life with my own family, and when I am not occupied with my greatest love, our daughter Grace, I am either thinking about food, cooking it or eating it. Like all Mums I love hungry people…. especially when I am cooking for them!
This website is all about the best of traditional Thai cuisine, brought up to date with modern cooking techniques and ingredients.
Cooking is entertainment and I love to teach it. If you would like me to share the wonders of Thai cuisine with you and your friends why not enroll onto one of my private classes? Share your culinary thoughts and objectives with me here!
